Mark Welland

For over 10 years Mark has been working on the Symmetree Oak project. He photographed the oak tree for 3 years in different weather conditions, times of day and changing seasons. In 2016 the oak tree was toppled by Storm Katie. He has since been creating works from both the wood and photographic sources, often combining the materials in mixed media. Along with exploring what nature means to us the works look to evoke the many hours spent in the company of the oak tree.

Mark has BA Hons in Visual Communication and Illustration from Birmingham Polytechnic. He has gained a number of awards for his work including from the Society of Botanical Artists and The Free Painters and Sculptors. He shows regularly at some of the UK’s largest Art Fairs.

“I like to think that my sculptures are humorous and slightly whimsical and that all of my pieces are unique in both form and personality.”
